Earlier this week, North Carolina artist Sam Pounds announced on social media that the tune, which he said had contributions from both Liam Payne and his sister Ruth Gibbins, will be released on November 1, 2024. In a since-deleted post, Pounds wrote: "I pray that this may be a benefit to the world, as Liam has always wished. I pray that angels would comfort you every day [sic] while listening. I wish that divine positive healing force embraces each and every one of you."
The news received varied reactions from fans, prompting Pounds to cancel the release entirely. "Today I'm deciding to hold 'Do No Wrong' and leave those liberties up to all family members," he posted on his X account on October 29, just two days after making the first statement. "I want all revenues to go to a charity of their choice (or anything they like). Even though we all adore the song, this is not the moment. We are all still mourning Liam's death, and I wish the family peace and prayer. "We'll all wait."
Shortly after his retraction, supporters hailed Pounds' decision to postpone the publication. "Thank you for making the correct decision. Someone remarked on the singer's post, "It's similar to what Liam would have chosen."
"Sam, it is a good decision, it is a gesture of love and respect that you prioritize Liam's family and that you honor his memory while respecting everyone's time of mourning," a different person tweeted.
"Your decision to value family, love, and respect above all else says volumes. It's wonderful that you've chosen to commemorate Liam's memory while also allowing everyone to mourn in their own manner. Holding out on 'Do No Wrong' for now and devoting revenues to a charity when the time is perfect is a truly meaningful gesture," a third one added.
The death of Liam Payne was reported on October 16, 2024, in Buenos Aires. He was 31. Since then, the singer has received several tributes from fans, ex One Direction members, and other musicians and celebrities. Outside of One Direction, Payne released his lone solo album, LP1, in 2019. His most recent hit, "Teardrops," came out in March 2024.
